El primer libro que lei de Maupassant
fue Bola de Sebo y Otros Cuentos.
Bola de Sebo y la Casa Telier me sorprendieron
gratamente. Tiempo despues le compre a la
profesora Celeste X las obras completas que
publicara la prestigisa Casa Aguilar.......




Bola de sebo.-En una diligencia de personas " decentes " hay entre los usuarios una prostituta. Desde el comienzo
hay cierto malestar en contra de ella. Maupassant lentamente teje el destino de los usuarios y el de la prostitua. Despues
de casi finalizar el viaje, detiene la diligencia un oficial. Este no permite continuen el viaje, hasta que Bola de Sebo
se entregue a el. En espera de continuar su viaje, todos aguardan que la prostituta consienta el deseo del oficial.
Finalmente continua la marcha de la diligencia. Una discreta complicidad .


Una partida de campo.
-Una familia pasa un domingo en el campo a orillas del Sena. Dos jóvenes remeros invitan a la madre e hija a un paseo en yate mientras los hombres duermen la siesta embotados por la comida y el alcohol. El paseo se convertirá en algo más que un simple e inocente recorrido fluvial.

Mademoiselle Fifí.-
Un grupo de oficiales prusianos establecen su base de operaciones en un palacio señorial ubicado en las proximidades de una aldea ocupada y pasan los días entreteniéndose en destrozar las maravillosas obras de arte y el magnífico mobiliario que el noble propietario de la mansión, en su huida, no pudo salvar de los invasores.
Tanto es su aburrimiento que deciden dar una fiesta y para ello invitan a un grupo de cinco prostitutas de la aldea. Durante la cena y cegados por el alcohol, profieren gritos patrióticos y humillantes para el pueblo francés. Una de las mujeres les hace frente heroicamente.

Aparición.
- La mujer, antaño fallecida, apareció de súbito en la habitación pidiéndole desesperadamente que peinase su larga cabellera negra.

Mi tio Jules
.- Un pariente emigrado a América aparece de pronto. Su situación es tan lamentable que los vínculos de la sangre quedan relegados al olvido.

La confesión.
- Su hermana menor agonizaba y en su lecho de muerte confiesa, ante ella y el sacerdote, los actos execrables que de joven cometió y que marcaron de forma definitiva la vida de ambas.

Dos amigos
.- En pleno asedio de París y cuando las tropas prusianas se acercaban a la ciudad, dos amigos aficionados a la pesca deciden tomar sus bártulos y dirigirse a una zona a orillas del Sena pese al peligro de encontrarse con el enemigo invasor. Cuando ya habían capturados unos cuantos ejemplares, una patrulla enemiga los detiene y los acusa de espionaje.

El collar
.- Ella era un mujer a la que la naturaleza había dotado para ser bella y admirada. Cierto día, en una noche embriagada de felicidad, pierde un collar que una amiga le prestó para el evento. A partir de ese momento su vida queda hipotecada con un único objetivo: poder pagar la pérdida de la joya.

La mano.
- Un juez describe, ante una horrorizada audiencia femenina, el caso de un inglés asesinado en extrañas circunstancias, no habiendo explicación racional para el caso.

La abuela Sauvage.
- Una anciana, en un acto de amor maternal, venga fríamente la muerte de su hijo en la guerra franco prusiana

El pordiosero.
- Cruda historia de un pedigüeño tullido que circunscribe su vida a una comarca reducida donde los lugareños acaban cansándose de él y lo hacen culpable de robo sin que su miseria sea un atenuante para sus actos.

El soldadito.
- Los dos soldados cuando salían del regimiento iban a pasear al campo donde conocieron a la moza de la vaca. Uno de ellos fue el elegido, el otro se sintió traicionado.

La pequeña Roque.
- El cartero del pueblo, en su ronda habitual, descubre el cadáver de la pequeña Roque. Ha sido violada y estrangulada. El alcalde, el médico y el juez acuden prestos al lugar de los hechos y comienzan las pesquisas que ningún resultado dan. Al final el caso se aclara de la forma más inesperada

El albergue.
- Dos hombres quedan aislados por las nieves de la montaña en un albergue durante tres meses. Al cabo de unos días, uno de ellos sale de caza y no vuelve. La soledad hace que el otro se vuelva loco de atar.

El puerto.
- Un barco llega a puerto repleto de hombres rudos y con meses de inactividad amorosa. En un bar uno de ellos se relaciona con una prostituta que le dará una dramática noticia.

Las tumbales.
- Dícese de las mujeres que, aprovechándose de la pena de los viudos que visitan las tumbas de sus esposas fallecidas, conquistan sus corazones y haciendas, simulando compartir el mismo dolor.

Henri René Albert Guy de Maupassant (French pronunciation: [ɡi də mopasɑ̃]; 5 August 1850 – 6 July 1893) was a popular 19th-century French writer and considered one of the fathers of the modern short story.
A protégé of Flaubert, Maupassant's stories are characterized by their economy of style and efficient, effortless dénouement. Many of the stories are set during the Franco-Prussian War of the 1870s and several describe the futility of war and the innocent civilians who, caught in the conflict, emerge changed. He also wrote six short novels.
