Re: Release of Cuban Political Prisoners

The pending release by Communist Cuba of the 52 Cuban political prisoners is a step in the right direction, but no more than that.

It remains for the Castro regime to move toward true political reform in Cuba by 1.) releasing all the political prisoners in Cuban prisons, 2.) beginning a public dialogue about the political future of Cuba including free and open elections, 3.) permitting the publication of an independent newspaper, and 4.) approving the launch of private sector enterprises in every Cuban province.

As Fidel Castro prepares to meet his maker, he would be wise to take steps in this world that may well determine his fate in the next.
