Cecilia Valdés in Los Angeles
A Cuban Zarzuela
A story of love and revange...
This Zarzuela was composed by the maestro, Gonzalo Roig, who is considered the Master of Lyric Theatre in Cuba. Cecilia Valdés takes place in Havana, Cuba in 1830 and presents the story of a yung mulatto woman's ill fated love affair with a white aristocrat plays out against a backdrop of race and class strife. The musical's powerful themes of identity are still relevant today, no just in Cuba but also in contemporary America
